GuessCut

How to play

One film, a letter board and a short clip. Your movie memory matters, not your speed.

Starting a round

Start with 1,000 possible points, a five-second clip and 5 to 8 chances: short titles get fewer. Play the clip first; letters and hints open once it has played.

What each action costs

Picking a letter or digit

Correct letters are free and open every matching position. A wrong letter costs one chance and 100 points. Repeated selections cost nothing.

Completing the film

Reveal all letters and numbers to win automatically. There is no title field or Enter step. The round ends when your chances run out.

Revealing more footage

−100 points, twice at most: five seconds becomes eight, then ten. It never costs a mistake, and a wrong guess never extends the clip for you.

Hints

Decade −80, cast member −120, reveal a letter −150. Each can be bought once. A revealed letter does not count as one of your selections.

Always free

Replaying the clip, pausing, muting, retrying after a network problem, and repeating something you already tried.

Daily and practice

The daily film is shared by everyone and changes at midnight UTC. You get one round per day. Practice and VS rounds do not affect your daily streak. Unfinished rounds expire after 24 hours.

Scoring

A win scores 1,000 minus everything you spent, and never less than 100. A loss or a give-up scores zero. Nothing depends on how fast you are.

The film title

The board uses the English film title. Spaces and punctuation are already visible; choose digits using the 123 button. Chances follow the title's length: 5 for up to 3 letters, 6 for 4–5, 7 for 6–7, 8 from 8 letters up.

Accessibility

Use the on-screen keyboard or physical letter and number keys while the game area has focus. Each selection is announced, and reduced-motion settings are respected. Identifying a film from footage still depends on being able to see or hear it.
