GuessCut is a daily film-guessing game at guesscut.app. This page explains what we collect when you play, why, and how to remove it. In short: you can play without an account, there are no ads or tracking, and you can delete your data yourself at any time.
Who we are
GuessCut (guesscut.app) is responsible for the personal data described on this page. For any privacy question or request, write to contact@guesscut.app.
When you play as a guest
You do not need an account. The first time you play, we create a random identifier and keep it in a cookie on your device. Linked to it, we store:
- the rounds you play, the letters you choose, whether the clip played, and your results
- your statistics and streak
- problem reports you send, including any note you write
We do not ask for your name, email address or any other contact details to play.
If you create an account
Accounts are optional. They keep your progress across devices and let you add friends and join the daily leaderboard. For an account we store:
- your email address, or your Google account identity if you sign in with Google
- the nickname you choose
- your friends and friend requests
- your game history, including games from this browser that you choose to add when you sign in
The daily leaderboard is off until you turn it on. When it is on, your nickname and daily score are visible to everyone. Friends see your nickname and results, never your email address. We never store a password.
Technical data
Like most websites, we and our hosting provider process technical data such as your IP address and browser type to run the site and protect it from abuse. We keep it only for a short time.
Visit statistics
We count visits with a privacy-friendly statistics tool that uses no cookies and does not identify you. It records things like the page viewed, the country, the device type and the site that linked here, and shows them to us only as totals.
Cookies and local storage
We only use cookies the game needs to work. There are no advertising or tracking cookies; a short notice says so on your first visit. We use:
- a guest cookie that remembers your games (it expires after 30 days)
- sign-in cookies while you are signed in, and a short-lived one during sign-in
- a language cookie, and a cookie that remembers if you closed the sign-in suggestion
- your light or dark theme choice, and whether you closed the cookie notice, saved in your browser’s local storage
Film clips (YouTube)
Film clips play through YouTube’s embedded player. When a clip loads, YouTube (Google) receives technical data such as your IP address and may store information on your device, under Google’s privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
Service providers
We do not sell your data or share it for advertising. A small number of service providers host the website, store game data and handle sign-in for us, and Google does so too if you choose to sign in with Google. They process data only to provide those services, and some may do so outside your country under standard data protection safeguards.
Why we use your data
- to run the game and your account, which is the service you asked for
- to prevent abuse and keep the service secure, which is our legitimate interest
- to show you on the leaderboard, only because you chose to, and you can turn it off at any time
How long we keep it and how to delete it
Your games and statistics are kept as long as your guest identity or account exists, so your history and streak keep working. You decide when they go:
- Guest: use “Delete my data” on the statistics page. Your games and statistics are removed immediately. A problem report you sent stays, but without your note and without any link to you.
- Account: use “Delete account” in account settings. Your account, history, statistics, friendships and reports are permanently deleted.
Clearing your cookies ends a guest identity on that device, but games already stored remain until they are deleted. If you cannot use the delete controls, write to contact@guesscut.app and we will help.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to access, correct, export or delete your data, or object to how we use it. Write to contact@guesscut.app and we will reply within 30 days.
Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR (EU and UK), KVKK (Türkiye) or the CCPA (California) may give you further rights, and you can complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
GuessCut is a general-audience game and is not directed at children under 13. Accounts are not meant for children under 13, or under the minimum age set by the law where they live. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and the date at the top.
